Santorini

Santorini or Thira is part of the Cyclades Islands of Greece. It’s one of the most beautiful islands to visit and stay during your next Greek holiday.  We stayed in the village of Kamari at the oddly named Afroditi Venus Beach Hotel & Spa The hotel was ideally located within an easy walk to the boardwalk along the Aegean Sea where you can find many shops, restaurants, and the sea just to relax.

The complex of islands forming what is known as Santorini is a result of natural disaster some 20,000 year. The volcanic eruption (approximately 12 total) lead to the collapse of the central part of the volcano. The volcano is still active today and is the only one in the world in which the craters are in the sea. The most recent eruption was about 3,600 years ago leading to what is known today as the Caldera and the stunning views from homes, hotels and alike all hanging from the crater cliffs.

Please consider exploring the other village on the island: the capital of Fira, Oia, Imerovigil (highest point of the caldera edge), and Megalochori. All of these villages are unique and offer their own touch of island life.

This was a very relaxing few days exploring the island and taking in the wonderful views, meals, and cooler breezes.  The sun is still warm this time of the year. I recommend preparing accordingly with sunscreen and proper sun protection. We were also informed that the water on the island was not best to drink and thus, bottle water was advised. All part of the fun of exploring our world. Hope you get the chance to visit Santorini and thank you for reading.
