Les Baux de Provence was an added half-day excursion on our Lyon to Provence Viking River Cruise. This village is perched high on a hill in the Alpilles between Avignon and Arles. Les Baux de Provence is in a beautiful location and offers some gorgeous views from the top of this village. We wanted to see the famous Quarries of Lights near the edge of the village. More on the Quarries of Lights in an upcoming blog post.
Our visit to Les Baux de Provence was on a sunny, chilly, and windy day. We visited off season, which meant no crowds and just a few brave storekeepers opening their shops. You must explore the streets and go up to the castle ruins for the best views of the valley of Southern France.

I recommend that you continue to walk up to the top of Les Baux de Provence. You will not be disappointed. At the top, you will find the Castle of Les Baux de Provence or locally known as Château des Baux de Provence Baux Castle. This is the ruins of a medieval fortress, which is part of a museum. We arrived just 10 minutes before closing. So, we decided not to visit the inside.
